An introduction:
Me and my Babe live here in the mountains of southern Pa. A small hunk of land with a "crick" and a field. Here we take care of our animals. Horses, dogs and cats. With no possibility to have children they are our babies.
Since this is my blog, I will write what ever I feel like and if you don't like it you can go get an ice cream bar and cry.
OK, now on to the blog itself.
There is alot of wives tales about horses so here I will dispel some of them.
Horses sleep standing up:
Wrong, horses doze standing up in fact they sleep laying down. They have to lay down to go into a deep REM sleep. When a horse lays down flat this is when their are in a deep sleep where they can dream. Their legs twitch and even give out little equine snores. I wonder what they dream about? Well knowing my horses probably food. They need to get their sleep to make them healthy and happy.
Every time a horse rolls they are worth and extra fifty bucks:
Hey, I don't know. Could be. This saying just means that when a horse is rolling every time they complete a roll they are worth 50 more bucks.
Old timers use to deworm their horses with tobacco:
They sure did. I don't know if it would deworm a horse. Most horses like tobacco though.
You are better off getting a name brand deworming product and asking your local feed store, stable, or someone in the know about a deworming schedule for your horse.
Hot bloods, warm bloods and cold bloods:
This has nothing to do with the temperature of the horses blood. Oh by the way a horses body temperature is about 100° F. Has more to do with where the breed came from. An Arabian is considered a hot blood because it comes from the hot dessert of Egypt and surrounding areas.
Ok enough for now. Thanks
